February 28Each Saturday morning, I take one of the boys out for breakfast. This was Peter’s week to go to breakfast with me and he chose Avalon Diner, which has been the destination of choice for the last few weeks because we all love their biscuits. Yum!

February 27At the Blue and Gold banquet on Friday night, Peter received his Tiger Cub badge. Daddy pinned it on Peter’s uniform upside down. When Peter performs a good deed, he can turn it right-side up and permanently attach it (notice I didn’t say sew it!) to his uniform. We are so proud of him!

February 26Tonight was Parent-Child Open House at Jacob’s school. He was so excited for the chance to show me the work he does in class each day. The first thing he showed me was how he writes sentences in his notebook with particular phonic combinations in red. I’m amazed at how good his handwriting is and how careful he is when he writes — the total opposite of his brother!

Blue, Gold, Red, White and Blue

February 25Peter’s Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet is on Friday. At the den meeting that we hosted a few weeks ago, one of our main objectives was to create 5 centerpieces for the banquet using the theme “America.” That was all the direction I got.

I wondered into Michael’s one Saturday afternoon to see what I could cobble together. I had hoped for red, white or blue tin pails, but could only find these white paint cans. I bought some star and flag stickers, wooden stars (large and small), wooden flags, dowels, paint, cloth mini-flags, shredded tissue and styrofoam disks to anchor the dowels in at the bottom of each can. I came home and began painting the wooden stars and flags. A couple of hours later, I emerged with a prototype centerpiece that the boys could copy on the night of the den meeting.

Every den had to make centerpieces. I’ll be interested to see what the other moms came up with!

Who’s The Fairest Of Them All?

February 24Peter came to the dinner table all excited tonight because he can almost see his whole face in the powder room mirror without standing on a stool or on his tiptoes. Hubby suggested it would make a good picture for today to show what Peter sees in the mirror, and Peter came up with the title.

This look on his face cracked me up. He was concerned over a scrape on his arm. Nothing a little Neosporin can’t cure.

My Favorite…Shampoo

February 23I recently bought Photoshop Elements, so I had a little fun with it today!

I used to use this shampoo when I was a little girl. Then, somewhere along the way, I started believing all the TV commercials telling me that this brand or that would make my hair super-pretty, super-strong, vitamin-enriched, smooth, silky and everything else desirable about hair. I forgot all about Suave until an online discussion last year about smells that remind you of your childhood. Someone said Suave Strawberry Shampoo, which hit the nail on the head!

The next time I needed to buy shampoo, I looked to see if Suave still made Strawberry Shampoo. They do, though its thoroughly modern name is “Fresh Mountain Strawberry.” And it is $1.30 cheaper than the stuff I was buying, so that doesn’t hurt either!

Sunday Shopping

February 22I do the weekly grocery shopping on Sundays. It is not my favorite task of all time, but somehow using these colorful reusable grocery bags makes it a bit more bearable. I got them at Ecologie Bags. They are a bit more expensive than the bags they sell at the grocery store, but they’re also much bigger and way, way cuter. And they’re from a local woman-owned business. I have found that 5 bags is typically enough for a week’s worth of groceries for our family of 4.
