The Day of Water

April 25Jacob was vomiting this morning and Peter’s baseball game was cancelled, so we got to veg for the second Saturday in a row. Around 11:00, the kids were watching cartoons, I was in the bedroom watching pre-NFL draft coverage and Hubby was mainly working upstairs on the computer, but also doing laundry. He had come into the bedroom to tell me something, then walked into the kitchen toward the laundry room. That’s when he discovered The Flood.

Somehow the washing machine had completely overflowed and had flooded the kitchen, laundry room, pantry and some of the dining room carpet. All told, it probably was only about 1/4″ water, but it made a HUGE mess. I grabbed every towel out of our linen closet, but as you can see from the picture, they did little to help. As soon as they hit the floor, they were soaked through.

Thankfully, Hubby had the idea to get out our Hoover Floormate vacuum to start sucking up the water. Peter and I picked up all the soggy towels and took them outside to wring them out and set them in the sun to dry. I went to Home Depot to get a big ol’ mop. Then I had to move everything out of the laundry room and get the stuff off the pantry floor (our soda 12-packs were down there, some bottled water, my reusable grocery sacks, and some other stuff). About two hours later, we finally had a handle on the mess and everything that wasn’t trashed was on the back patio drying in the sun.

Whew! Crisis averted. Then it started to rain! So we had to run outside and drag everything back inside. We dubbed today The Day of Water.

Ugh! I hope it doesn’t overflow again. We had the same thing happen once. It turned out the sensor that tells the water to switch off was broken.
