June 1In the latter part of last year, we decided to sponsor a child through Mission of Mercy. The boys and I perused a number of photos on the website before settling on a 7-year-old Cambodian boy named Vannlong Leang. He has written us several letters, the most recent of which just arrived. He is in 2nd grade and studies hard. He enjoys sports such as tennis and soccer.

I thought it would be good for the boys to have a connection to this child and to help them understand that not all children their age have the same privileges they do. This little boy, whom I’ll likely never meet, is not at all hesitant to share his love from halfway around the world. Tonight, I wrote a letter back to him telling him what the boys will be looking forward to this summer, asking about his family, encouraging him to keep studying hard in school and letting him know that we love him and are praying for him. I pray that the relatively small sum we donate each month is making a difference in his life.

That’s great organization and I know your family will be touched by that boy. We sponsor a 7 year old girl in Bangledesh named Bristy through Mission of Mercy – her letters are so sweet and it really helps you put things in perspective when you see how happy they are.

Thanks, Carol. I’m glad you’re having a good experience with your sponsored child also.
