August 30We visited the new home of our friends Lyn and Nelson today. The kids all had fun swimming in their fancy pool. I’m so proud of how Peter and Jacob have become much more confident in the water this summer. I still supervise them, of course, but they are much less dependent on me and don’t mind at all if I don’t get in the pool with them.

August 29Peter has had a nagging cough for the last 3 weeks, so I took him into sick clinic at the pediatrician’s office on Saturday morning. It was a really busy day and we had to wait 90 minutes from our appointment time to see the doctor. She thinks he has allergies, so we’re going to try Zyrtec at night to see if that alleviates the problem.

August 28I arrived home on Friday to find that my membership materials for D23 had arrived, including my first issue of the quarterly magazine. The feature this month is on the Haunted Mansion ride. The magazine cover glows in the dark, which the boys (including Hubby) thought was super cool.

August 27_1

August 27_2I traveled to Chicago on Wednesday for a business conference. In the discombobulation of traveling, I forgot to take a photo on Wednesday. So I took 2 on Thursday. The first is the rainy view from my window on the 28th floor of the Fairmont Hotel and the second is the view of the city from in front of the Adler Planetarium, where we enjoyed cocktails and dinner, including our own private planetarium show. It was quite cold in Chicago — in the mid 60s, which is almost a 40 degree difference from Houston!

August 25A couple of years ago, I found a good deal on this RoboReptile toy for the boys at Christmas time. They gave him the oh-so-imaginative name of Dino. Dino is a fierce little bugger who loves to attack things. The kids think it’s funny to make Dino attack me (via remote control) because it makes me scream. Even though I know he’s not real, Dino still freaks me out a little. A managed to catch him at rest (I think Jacob turned him off) for this photo op.

First Day of School!

August 24Today, Jacob started kindergarten at his new school, and Peter entered 2nd grade! I can’t believe my babies are growing up so quickly. Everyone (including me) was a little nervous this morning, but drop-off went smoothly with no tears from anyone (including me).

On the first day of school, I always leave work a little early and take the boys out for ice cream after school. While they noshed on Dairy Queen, I heard all about what they did today. Each of them had a great day, and Peter was pleased to inform me that the only homework he brought home was for me to complete (i.e., paperwork!).

August 23The backpacks are ready to go back to school, but are the children?
