We celebrated Peter’s 8th birthday on Monday, December 21st.  We let him pick the restaurant, and he chose Pappadeaux specifically because of their birthday song.  The lyrics are:  “This is your birthday song.  It’s not very long.”  He enjoyed his favorite banana pudding for dessert.

Let It Snow!

On December 4th, it snowed in Houston.  This snowfall set a record for the earliest snowfall ever in Houston.  It has snowed here only 33 times in recorded history, and 3 of them have been since Peter was born.  While there was no real accumulation downtown, we got around an inch at our house.  Unfortunately, by the time I got home, the snow had turned to rain (isn’t that in a Dan Fogelberg song?) and much of it had melted.  But not before the boys got in a snowball fight with their grandparents!

The top photo is a picture of the Christmas tree at Houston City Hall, which is directly across the street from the building where I work.  I took this photo at lunch time.  I think the tree was scheduled to be lit that night, but they had to reschedule it, needless to say.

The bottom photo is the snowball fight in progress.

We attended our community’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 3rd.  A cold front blew in that day, and it was a windy and cold night!  This is not a great photo at all, but the best one I have from the evening (taken by my mother-in-law).

Happy Birthday Jacob!

Jacob turned 6 on November 18th.  I can’t believe my baby has turned into such a big boy!  We celebrated with dinner at Texas Land and Cattle.  After we ate, we took a family photo by the fireplace at the restaurant.

October 25This morning, Hubby ran a half-marathon.  Because I was away, we had to have a babysitter come over very early this morning so Hubby could get to the race on time.  Here is his finisher’s medal.   Not sure why it appears to look like a fan, but it’s kind of neat looking.

September 12We celebrated my birthday with my parents at Benihana on Saturday. I did splurge and eat carbs (gasp!). I didn’t have a full Benihana meal (I ate salad and sushi instead), but did treat myself to some chicken fried rice. YUMMMMY!
It was quite a shock to my system, however, and I didn’t feel to great afterwards!

Nevertheless, I enjoyed getting to spend time with my mom and dad, pictured here with me.

Nap Time

July 25Saturday was a hot, energy-sapping kind of day. Hubby went for a 4-mile run, followed by an 18-mile bike ride in the morning. I took the kids to play mini-golf. It didn’t feel that hot outside at first, but we were pretty sweaty by the end. And Jacob actually vomited at the 18th hole. He’s my puker, so it could have been for no reason whatsoever. Or maybe he was overheated and/or a bit dehydrated.

When we got home, Peter, who has shunned naps since age 3, requested to take a nap and went to his room. I told Jacob a nap would be a good idea for him too, given that he had just thrown up. He was reluctant until I told him he could sleep in “Mommy’s spot” in our bed. He and Hubby settled in for a nice snooze. Zzzzzzzzzz.
